Furniture manufacturers implement Revit (BIM) as a competitive advantage.

Furniture manufacturers are adopting Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies as a means to compete in the actual furniture market. Manufacturers are digitizing all products generating AutoCAD models and Revit objects to participate in a BIM collaborative network to get specified earlier in projects.  Furniture manufacturers & Revit (BIM) implementation result in a competitive advantage maximizing product reach and customer engagement.

According to the latest survey report of the American Institute of Architects, Building Information Modeling (BIM) has reached a popularity peak as it becomes used on nearly all projects at larger firms. Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) firms are finding multiple uses, including design visualization, coordinated construction documents, presentations and renderings.

The Revit landscape.

AEC firms use Revit families to give them accurate information about all the building models they are using within a design. Architects and designers are able to make a more informed decision about the products to choose for a particular space.

Furniture manufacturers must assure product appearance on specification platforms (Autodesk® Seek, BIMobject®) to increase reach. Involvement in the BIM network is not optional to succeed in the furniture industry.  Furniture manufacturers must partner with BIM specialists to implement BIM technologies correctly complying with industry standards.

Servex has been digitizing assets since 2004.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) and the furniture industry.

The Furniture and AEC community are migrating from AutoCAD to Revit considering the amount of information and detail specified on the file type. Many of the top Architecture & Design (A&D) firms have made it mandatory for manufacturers to create product Revit families to be considered in requests for proposals (RFP).

Furniture manufacturers are creating Revit families to generate standard custom elements of a building model. Revit families represent similar types of products (families) based on the product’s usage and behavior. As an example, a furniture manufacturer can divide a chair, desk, or cabinet collection into a different Revit Family. Revit families are basically product categories with a common set of properties and related graphical representations.
